Let me tell you a story about this poster.
The copyright on the bottom of the poster says 1997; I’m almost certain that I either bought it or received it as a gift in either 1997 or early 1998. I said to myself that one day, I would have a kitchen of my own, and I was going to hang the poster in my own kitchen.
I went to college and lived in the dorms—no kitchen. Our first apartment was a studio apartment, with no separate kitchen to speak of, and I didn’t hang it up. The next apartment didn’t really have wall space in the kitchen, so again: it didn’t get hung up.
The house after that, the same story: no good space, and for two more years, it sat rolled up. We’re up to early 2004 by now, if you’re keeping track. Xh and I bought a house that spring, we moved, there was even a wall in the kitchen, but somehow… Cookie Monster never got hung up there. I didn’t leave that house until August 2012, and Cookie Monster never hung up there.
The house we rented last year didn’t have any wall space in the kitchen, and I considered hanging Cookie Monster up in the dining room, but it just never happened.
As you can tell from the photo, Cookie Monster is finally hanging on the wall in my kitchen. It only took the two of us fifteen years.
